Straight Talk

Monday, December 10, 2012

I just wanted to start this post with a little grievance against certain stores. I went to the mall this past weekend and tried on some dresses at a college-age store, and was sorely disappointed. It doesn't shock me after visiting said store (and those like it) that girls have such difficulty accepting the body God gave them.
Let's talk straight, I am only 5 feet tall. I do have curves, particularly in my hips, but I'm generally a size small. I tried on that size and even some mediums in their dresses and found them to be extremely tight (not intentionally) or uncomfortable because they didn't fit my hips. If I went up a size, it would not fit elsewhere, or it'd be extremely long. I left the store upset and wanting to eat nothing but healthy food and hop on a treadmill twice a day for the rest of my life.
What's so troubling is how are girls supposed to be confident in who they are and how they look if stores make their clothing to fit 6 foot tall beanpoles that resemble models more than actual girls? I find this trend widespread, because we live in a society that values stick-thin, malnourished looking women over a more curvacious, healthy looking standard.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, be happy with who you are. Don't worry about what number or size you are, but focus instead on always looking fabulous. Because, in the end, that's all that matters; that you radiate beauty and confidence.
Now, onto my outfit! I love how versatile this denim top is! I plan on wearing it as part of my Christmas outfit this year. It might sound terrible, but I'm trying to hold off from washing it because my mom ironed it for me over fall break. We have an iron, I just may or may not be too lazy to iron any of my clothes (hehe). Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to be straight with you fine ladies! Happy Monday!
